Institution for Savings Charitable Foundation Donates $100,000 Towards the Restoration of World War Memorial Stadium

The Institution for Savings, through its Charitable Foundation, is donating $100,000 to the RESTORE Our Stadium Committee for the restoration and renovation of World War Memorial Stadium at Newburyport High School. The donation, which will be paid out over two years, was announced today by Institution for Savings President and Chief Executive Officer Mark F. Welch.

“This is the type of community project that we like to support,” said Mr. Welch in announcing the contribution. “World War Memorial Stadium is more than just an athletic facility. It’s a historic landmark, and an important memorial to our veterans that holds so many memories for generations of athletes and spectators. The idea of not simply preserving this historic landmark but also improving it so that many more youngsters can utilize use World War Memorial Stadium today and into the future really appeals to us.”

This is the second large donation pledge that RESTORE has received in recent days. Last week, the city’s Community Preservation Committee (CPC) announced that they were recommending a 2-year donation totaling $250,000 to RESTORE.

“We’re thrilled by this donation, ” said RESTORE chair Mary Anne Clancy. “The Institution for Savings always steps up to the plate when there is a need in the community, and we couldn’t ask for a better partner in a project so important to Newburyport.”
